The Villa Maria Chapel Foundation ministry is based on the conviction that we must love and care for one another. Our love must not be words only—it must be true love, which shows itself in the wonderful faith and spirit within the chapel walls. Each person that attends a chapel service brings their own unique perspective to the worship experience. Our visiting ministers, priests or rabbis share God’s love with our attendees; building spiritual bridges and celebrating the diversity of the worshipers.
The current history of our chapel begins in 1976 and in 1995, with funding provided by the Catholic Foundation as well as private donations, the chapel was renovated and rededicated by Bishop Moreno. When Villa Maria Care Center was purchased by Coppersands, Inc. in 2000, it was decided the Villa Maria Chapel would become a separate foundation, which would ensure and uphold the mission of the chapel. In 2008 the Villa Maria Chapel Foundation (VMCF) achieved 501(c)(3) status, establishing it as a non-profit, charitable foundation.
The chapel is often described as the “Jewel of the Desert,” and with the help and support of dedicated volunteers, donations and planned giving, it will continue its outreach to residents of VMCC as well as to their families and residents of the Tucson community.
